Today the first graders celebrated Chinese New Year with a parade. Jakob's class made dragons to put on their arms and they, along with the other 1st grade classes, paraded around the school clanging their musical instruments and chanting, "HAPPY NEW YEAR" in Chinese. Even Zack got to participate. (He is in the black shirt behind Jakob)
I have really enjoyed going into Jakob's class this year. Every Friday I go in and teach sign language. (The teacher was teaching the kids and I saw my opportunity to volunteer.) For the rest of the school year we are going to be working on learning "The Star Spangle Banner". If you know sign language, you know that this is going to be quite the task. But it's what the students asked for.
The first graders celebrated "100 Days of School". The kids worked on projects that represented 100 days and they also dressed up like 100 year olds. It was sooooo fun! Jakob built the # 100 out of 100 legos. I thought it was pretty creative of him. The creativity in dressing up was something to remember. My favorite was the girl who brought in a walker. Jakob did have suspenders but he couldn't keep them up so he took them off before the picture.
Jakob's class really is a fun class. They just love Zack to death and let him participate in everything as if he were one of them. He even got to hold the flag and lead the Pledge of Allegiance. The teacher, Ms. Lee and her aid, Ms. Davis are fantastic people too.
